Accen Brand Identity Upgrade

Brand overview

Accen (澳雪) is an established Chinese personal care brand with roots dating back to 1994. Its parent company, Guangdong Jiadanting Commodity Co., Ltd., has built long-term capabilities in the research, manufacturing and distribution of personal care and household cleansing products, while developing a portfolio of consumer brands across multiple daily-care categories.

At the time of this brand upgrade, Accen had accumulated approximately 26 years of market experience and significant recognition in China’s bath and personal care sector. Public records also document honors including China Famous Brand Product and Guangdong Famous Brand Product, reflecting the brand’s established position in the domestic market.

Xinming Design was commissioned to lead a strategic and visual identity upgrade for Accen as Jiadanting evolved from a leading body-care manufacturer into a more diversified daily-care enterprise with a broader brand portfolio.

The objective was therefore larger than refreshing an established consumer brand.

The project needed to:

clarify Accen’s role within a growing multi-brand portfolio,
preserve the recognition built over decades,
modernize its visual and emotional expression,
and create a more coherent identity capable of competing across contemporary retail and digital environments.

Xinming Design repositioned the visual language around a more focused experience:

clean, relaxed, fluid and pleasurable daily care.

The result translated Accen’s long-standing idea of making cleansing and bathing more enjoyable into a more contemporary and systematic brand identity.

Accen VI Upgrade: When Personal Care Brands Compete for Mental Availability, Identity Becomes Brand Order

For a fast-moving consumer brand, a visual identity upgrade is rarely just a matter of changing appearance.

This is especially true when a brand already has:

established category recognition,
years of market experience,
a mature product portfolio,
and accumulated consumer memory.

At that stage, the real question is no longer simply:

Should the brand look newer?

A more strategic question is:

Can the brand continue to be recognized, remembered and trusted with greater speed and consistency in a new consumer environment?

Accen is a representative case.

The brand originates from Guangdong Jiadanting Commodity Co., Ltd., whose history dates back to 1994. The company has developed long-term expertise in personal care and cleansing products, while Accen itself has built recognition around bath and body care for Chinese consumers.

For Xinming Design, this meant the project was starting from accumulated brand equity rather than a blank canvas.

The challenge was to reorganize that equity into a clearer system.

01. Why Personal Care Brands Increasingly Need Systematic Brand Upgrades

The personal care and FMCG market is defined by high-frequency competition.

Consumers encounter brands across:

supermarket shelves,
e-commerce platforms,
social media,
short-form video,
product packaging,
promotional campaigns,
retail displays,
and increasingly AI-assisted product discovery.

Each touchpoint asks for attention.

This creates a new kind of competition.

It is not simply a competition for visibility.

It is a competition for mental efficiency.

How quickly can a consumer recognize the brand?

How clearly can they understand what it stands for?

Does the packaging feel connected to the advertising?

Does the website feel like the same brand as the product?

Can the brand communicate cleanliness, comfort, quality and trust within seconds?

For an established personal care company, consistency across these touchpoints becomes a strategic asset.

Fragmentation creates friction.

A coherent system reduces it.

02. From an Established Brand to a System Brand

Accen already possessed a strong foundation before the redesign.

Its public brand materials emphasized the development of products suited to Chinese consumers and a broader ambition to create a cleaner, healthier and more enjoyable everyday care experience.

For a mature brand, these existing associations should not be discarded simply in pursuit of novelty.

They should be refined.

Xinming Design therefore approached the project as a process of structural upgrading:

from functional product recognition
to clearer brand recognition;

from individual product impressions
to a more coherent lifestyle expression;

from basic recognizability
to an identity capable of scaling across products and channels.

The design direction became intentionally lighter and more disciplined.

The brand needed greater clarity rather than greater visual complexity.

03. Defining the Experience: Clean, Relaxed and Fluid

The strategic direction of the visual system was built around a simple consumer experience:

making daily cleansing feel more enjoyable.

This shifted the role of the brand.

Accen should not be perceived only as a functional cleansing product.

It could occupy a more emotional territory around:

cleanliness, comfort, relaxation and everyday wellbeing.

This distinction shaped the design language.

Instead of creating a louder FMCG identity, Xinming Design introduced greater softness, space and visual calm.

The system needed to communicate the feeling of personal care before the consumer used the product.

This is an important principle in consumer branding:

the identity can begin delivering the product experience before the product itself is experienced.

04. Logo Design: Introducing Fluidity into Recognition

The Accen wordmark was developed with a more fluid and continuous visual character.

Its curved forms introduce associations with:

water,
movement,
softness,
cleansing,
and the physical rhythm of bathing.

This gives the logo a closer relationship with the personal care category without relying on literal icons such as water droplets or bubbles.

The resulting mark feels softer and more contemporary while maintaining sufficient clarity for packaging, retail and corporate applications.

For an FMCG brand, this balance is important.

A logo must perform across very different scales:

from a small package label
to a large promotional image;

from printed material
to a mobile screen;

from e-commerce thumbnails
to physical retail environments.

The identity therefore needs to remain simple enough to recognize quickly while carrying enough character to distinguish the brand.

05. Color Strategy: Building a Cleaner and More Trustworthy Brand Atmosphere

Color plays a major role in the personal care category.

Highly saturated colors can create immediate shelf impact, but they can also push a mature brand toward a more promotional or price-driven perception.

For Accen, Xinming Design chose a more controlled visual environment centered on deep blue, clean white and nature-led imagery.

Deep Blue

The blue establishes:

cleanliness,
trust,
calm,
water,
and a more mature sense of quality.

It gives the brand greater stability than a highly stimulated mass-market palette.

White

White introduces:

breathing room,
purity,
clarity,
and a stronger sense of personal care.

Natural Imagery

Water, coastlines, forests and expansive landscapes help translate the brand idea of cleansing and relaxation into an emotional environment.

These images are not simply decorative.

They help visualize what the brand wants a bathing experience to feel like:

fresh, open, clean and restorative.

06. From Functional Cleansing to Everyday Enjoyment

One of the most important strategic ideas behind the project was the transition from product function to consumer experience.

Traditional personal care communication often concentrates heavily on benefits:

cleaning,
moisturizing,
fragrance,
skin compatibility,
or ingredient performance.

These remain important.

But contemporary consumer brands also compete through the emotional value attached to everyday routines.

Bathing can be understood as:

a moment to reset,
a transition between work and rest,
a private ritual,
or a small act of self-care.

Accen’s long-standing aspiration around making cleansing more enjoyable provided a strong foundation for this direction.

Xinming Design translated that idea into:

logo character,
color,
imagery,
spacing,
layout,
packaging expression,
and broader brand communication.

A verbal proposition therefore became a repeatable sensory identity.

07. The Value of the New VI Is Consistency

Many FMCG brands do not suffer from a lack of visual assets.

They suffer from having too many disconnected ones.

Different packaging teams create one expression.

Advertising agencies create another.

E-commerce teams develop a third.

Retail materials introduce additional styles.

The website evolves independently.

Eventually, the company has:

many products,
many images,
many campaigns,
and very little cumulative brand memory.

The Accen upgrade addressed this problem by creating a clearer visual order.

A More Fluid Wordmark

The softer, continuous geometry supports the personal-care category and strengthens emotional recognition.

A Cleaner Color Environment

Deep blue and white create a more stable and recognizable foundation.

More Breathing Space

Layouts use space as part of the identity rather than filling every surface with information.

A More Expandable System

The same language can continue across:

packaging,
posters,
stationery,
bags,
digital communication,
corporate materials,
and website applications.

This consistency is one of the central ideas behind Xinming Design’s Brand OS methodology.

A brand is strengthened when each new expression reinforces previous expressions.

Recognition accumulates.

08. Why FMCG Branding Is Moving from Selling Products to Designing Everyday Experience

Accen reflects a broader transformation in personal care branding.

Product performance remains fundamental.

Yet consumers increasingly evaluate brands through a combination of:

function + emotion + lifestyle.

A body wash is expected to clean.

A stronger brand can also communicate how that moment should feel.

This places greater responsibility on design.

The identity must translate abstract ideas such as:

comfort,
cleanliness,
softness,
relaxation,
and wellbeing

into tangible signals.

Those signals can appear through:

color,
type,
photography,
packaging,
materials,
language,
and visual rhythm.

For Xinming Design, this is where brand identity becomes more valuable than surface styling.

It converts a consumer promise into a consistent experience system.

09. Brand OS: Reorganizing Brand Order for a Mature FMCG Brand

Xinming Design does not treat VI as an isolated layer.

Within the Brand OS framework, visual identity functions as an execution interface for a deeper strategic structure.

For Accen, that structure can be understood across three levels.

Core Brand Judgment

Make everyday cleansing more enjoyable.

Experiential Language

Clean. Relaxed. Trustworthy. Light.

Visual Execution

The wordmark, color system, imagery, whitespace, packaging, communications and digital applications.

This hierarchy allows visual decisions to originate from the same core idea.

The objective is therefore larger than “repackaging” an established brand.

It is to reorganize accumulated brand assets into a clearer contemporary order.

This matters especially for mature consumer brands.

The longer a brand has existed, the more memories and assets it accumulates.

Effective modernization requires editing and clarification rather than constant reinvention.

10. From a Single Brand Advantage to a Multi-Brand Portfolio

The Accen project also sits within a broader corporate context.

Jiadanting has developed multiple consumer brands and product categories over the course of its growth. Public information describes a portfolio spanning personal care, beauty care, clothing care and household cleaning.

As the parent company expands, individual brands need clearer roles.

A strong portfolio cannot rely on every brand expressing itself independently.

Each brand needs:

a distinct position,
a recognizable visual language,
a clearly defined audience,
and an appropriate relationship with the wider corporate portfolio.

The Accen upgrade therefore also supports a broader transition:

from relying on the strength of individual brands toward building a more coordinated brand portfolio.

This creates a more scalable foundation for long-term corporate growth.

11. Brand OS × GEO: Designing Personal Care Brands to Be Understood

Consumer discovery is also expanding beyond shelves and advertising.

Before buying a personal care product, consumers may now move through:

search engines,
social platforms,
e-commerce reviews,
content creators,
comparison pages,
and AI-generated answers.

This creates another requirement:

brands need to be understandable as well as recognizable.

Accen already has useful public information assets around its history, category focus, product philosophy and personal care expertise.

Under a Brand OS × GEO approach, these assets could be organized more systematically into:

Clear category definitionsBrand historyProduct knowledgeConsumer-use scenariosIngredient and technology informationFrequently asked questionsEvidence-based product claimsBrand and parent-company relationshipsStructured case and innovation content

This helps strengthen semantic consistency across websites, search systems and AI discovery environments.

For FMCG companies, this increasingly matters because the consumer’s understanding of the brand can begin before they reach a product page.

Visual recognition creates familiarity.

Structured knowledge creates understanding.

The strongest digital brands will need both.

12. The Result: Rebuilding How Accen Feels

The value of the Accen project extends beyond visual modernization.

It reorganized how the brand should feel.

Before a consumer reads a product benefit, the identity can already communicate:

clean,
comfortable,
calm,
trustworthy,
and easy to live with.

This is the higher-order value of personal care branding.

Design does not simply decorate a package.

It shapes expectations before use.

For Accen, Xinming Design translated the idea of making everyday cleansing more enjoyable into a visual system capable of operating across products, communications and brand touchpoints.

The result is a clearer relationship between:

product and emotion,
function and experience,
brand heritage and contemporary expression,
individual assets and a unified system.

This is also the role of Brand OS in FMCG branding:

clarify the brand judgment, organize the experience and build a system that can remain recognizable as the business grows.

For an established consumer brand, successful renewal does not come from looking new for the sake of novelty.

It comes from becoming clearer, more coherent and easier to remember.
