SOFAR Brand Visual Identity Upgrade

Brand overview

As the global energy industry shifts toward decarbonization, distributed generation, energy storage and intelligent energy management, renewable energy companies are evolving from product manufacturers into integrated energy solution providers.

SOFAR is a global provider of solar PV and energy storage solutions, serving residential, commercial and industrial (C&I), and utility-scale energy applications. The company is committed to advancing digital energy solutions and supporting the global transition toward a more efficient, intelligent and low-carbon energy system.

As SOFAR expanded its technology portfolio and global market presence, its brand identity needed to communicate more than product capability. It needed to express a larger ambition: digital energy leadership, technological reliability, system intelligence and a zero-carbon future.

Xinming Design led the brand upgrade by developing a more distinctive and scalable visual identity system—connecting SOFAR’s strategic direction with a visual language designed for long-term global use.

The Challenge: Creating a Brand Identity for the Transition from Energy Products to Energy Systems

The renewable energy industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation.

Solar inverters, battery storage systems and monitoring platforms are increasingly interconnected. Energy companies are being evaluated not only by individual products, but also by their ability to integrate hardware, software, data and intelligent energy management into complete systems.

SOFAR’s portfolio reflects this transformation. Its solutions span PV inverters, hybrid inverters, battery energy storage systems, C&I and utility-scale energy storage, microinverter systems, monitoring technologies and intelligent energy management across multiple application scenarios.

This evolution created a new branding challenge.

The visual identity needed to communicate four qualities simultaneously:

Technology. Energy. Connectivity. Sustainability.

It also needed to work consistently across increasingly complex brand touchpoints—from digital platforms and corporate communications to products, exhibitions, technical materials and international markets.

The task was therefore larger than redesigning a logo.

It was about establishing a visual system capable of representing SOFAR as a digital energy company rather than simply an energy hardware manufacturer.

Brand Strategy: Translating Digital Energy into a Visual Language

Xinming Design approached the project from the strategic layer of the brand.

The visual direction was developed around three core ideas:

Digital Energy

The energy industry is becoming increasingly software-driven, data-connected and intelligent.

The brand therefore required a visual language that could communicate technological precision while remaining accessible and recognizable across global markets.

Zero-Carbon Future

Decarbonization represents one of the defining long-term narratives of the renewable energy industry.

Rather than relying on conventional environmental symbols, the identity translates the idea of Net Zero into a more concise and ownable visual structure.

System Connectivity

Modern energy infrastructure functions as a connected network.

Generation, conversion, storage, monitoring and energy management increasingly operate as parts of one intelligent system. The identity therefore needed to express both structural stability and continuous flow.

These strategic principles became the foundation of the new SOFAR visual identity.

Logo Design: A Balance Between Stability and Energy Flow

At the heart of the identity is a geometric relationship between the square and the circle.

The concept of “a circle within a square, and a square within a circle” creates a visual balance between structure and movement.

The square represents stability, engineering discipline and system architecture.

The circle represents energy circulation, continuity and connectivity.

Together, they form a visual metaphor for a digital energy system—structured enough to be reliable, yet dynamic enough to continuously generate, store, distribute and manage energy.

The letter “O” also introduces another layer of meaning.

Its circular form can be read as a visual reference to zero, connecting the identity with the global ambition of Net Zero and a low-carbon energy future.

This allows the logo to operate at two levels: as a recognizable corporate identifier and as a compact expression of the company’s long-term energy vision.

Color Strategy: Technology Meets Sustainability

The refreshed color system is built around two primary visual signals:

Sky Blue represents technology, intelligence, openness and reliability.

Aurora Green represents renewable energy, sustainability and the transition toward a low-carbon future.

Together, the two colors move beyond the conventional “green energy” aesthetic.

The combination creates a more contemporary digital-energy expression—balancing environmental responsibility with technological capability.

The system was designed to remain distinctive across both physical and digital environments, from product interfaces and exhibition spaces to corporate presentations and online communications.

Building a Scalable Visual Identity System

A successful energy brand operates across a highly diverse range of touchpoints.

For SOFAR, the identity needed to function across corporate communications, digital platforms, products, technical documents, exhibitions, global marketing materials and other international applications.

Xinming Design therefore developed a systematic visual identity framework including:

Logo architecture and usage standardsCore brand graphicsPrimary and secondary color systemsTypography guidelinesGrid and layout principlesGraphic composition rulesDigital communication templatesCorporate and marketing applicationsExhibition and environmental applicationsCross-platform visual consistency rules

The objective was to establish a repeatable visual logic, allowing new materials to be created without losing the identity of the brand.

This is particularly important for technology and energy companies operating across multiple products, markets and communication teams.

A scalable brand identity reduces visual fragmentation and helps every touchpoint reinforce the same brand perception.

From VI to Brand OS: Designing a Brand That Can Operate as a System

The SOFAR project also reflects Xinming Design’s broader Brand OS methodology.

Brand OS treats a brand as an operating system rather than a collection of isolated visual assets.

Brand positioning establishes the strategic direction.

Brand narrative defines what the company needs to communicate.

Visual identity converts that strategy into a recognizable interface.

Rules, templates and governance mechanisms allow the identity to remain consistent as the organization grows.

Under this framework, VI design becomes part of a larger brand infrastructure.

For a global technology company, this matters because a brand must be able to operate across different countries, departments, agencies, digital channels and business scenarios without continuously reinventing itself.

The value of the visual system therefore extends beyond aesthetics.

It creates clarity, consistency and scalability.

The Result: A More Recognizable and International Digital Energy Brand

The brand upgrade established a clearer and more systematic visual foundation for SOFAR.

The refreshed identity strengthened the connection between the company’s technological capabilities and its ambition in digital energy, while giving the brand a more distinctive visual presence across international markets.

More importantly, the project created a visual system capable of evolving with the business.

As SOFAR continues to expand across solar PV, energy storage and intelligent energy management, the identity provides a stable framework for communicating a growing portfolio of technologies and solutions.

For renewable energy companies, this represents an increasingly important shift in brand building.

As products become more sophisticated and energy systems become more interconnected, the role of branding also changes.

A strong renewable energy brand must help customers understand what the company represents, how its technologies connect, and why its system deserves long-term trust.

That is the role of a future-ready brand identity.
